HATTIESBURG (AP) — Sincere McCormick ran for 173 yards and two touchdowns to lead UTSA to a 23-20 victory over Southern Mississippi on Saturday.

It was the first win for the Roadrunners (6-4, 4-2 Conference USA) at Southern Miss (2-7, 1-4).

Tate Whatley threw a 51-yard touchdown pass to Frank Gore Jr. for Southern Miss that capped the scoring with 10 minutes to play. The Golden Eagles had one more possession, but couldn’t cross midfield after 11 plays and four minutes remaining.

Trailing 10-9 after halftime, McCormick broke loose on a 69-yard touchdown run and scored from the 1 that gave the Roadrunners a 23-10 lead with 6:30 left in the third quarter.

McCormick entered second in the nation in yards rushing and set the program’s single-season rushing record at 1,044 yards with a game remaining. He surpassed Jarveon Williams’ 1,042 mark set in 2015-16. It was McCormick’s eighth career 100-yard rushing game, matching Williams’ record.

UTSA’s Zakhari Franklin caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from Frank Harris in the second quarter. Franklin, a sophomore, finished with 22 yards receiving and has over 1,000 yards for the season.

Whatley was 22-of-39 passing for 220 yards with two touchdowns. Gore finished with 70 yards rushing to go along with his scoring catch.

RICHMOND Valley Council unanimously voted to proceed with a $7 million revamp of the Northern Rivers Livestock Exchange at their May meeting on Tuesday night, after listening to rural constituents at a packed public meeting the week prior.

As a result fees for vendors will increase from $8.06 to $11 per head, including an increased capital works levy, while the combined annual payments from four agents in Casino will leap 270 per cent from $3700 to $10,000.

In the council business papers it was noted that based on annual throughput sales over the last four years, ranging from $35m – $84m, agents had received commissions from $1.57m in 2010-11 to $3.78m last year.

The increased hit to vendors and agents would generate an additional $257,230 each year to help fund the redevelopment and ‘improve the financial sustainability of the facility’.

The upgrade will see the livestock exchange remain in public hands, with a Federal grant of $3.5 million at less than one per cent interest with further borrowings plus $334,695 from the saleyards’ reserve used to create a soft floor to aid animal welfare, a roof covering half the yards and renewal of drafting gates and pens. However final design is not complete, considering that the council’s previous consultants’ report is four years old.

Ahead of the council vote Casino Auctioneers Association president Matthew McCormack implored the council to keep costs reasonable for vendors in order to increase throughout.
